I was looking for one overdrive to sit on a board that serves both my pedal steel guitar and my Stratocaster. Kind of a tall order, even with a Sarno Black Box first in my chain to help tame signal differences. The Ages delivers.
I love how the Ages has so many transparent flavors available, and can punch all the way to Dumble-style crunch sound. I tend to leave the blend pretty low (very little dry signal), but the onboard EQ is super helpful for adjusting to the variation in inputs. It even gets a really nice octave sound with an MXR Poly Blue in front of it (which is an amazing octave pedal that plays great with a steel guitar, BTW).
If you are looking for a single transparent overdrive that does a lot, this one is great. I also like my Wampler Euphoria, although the Ages is a little less buzzy and I like how all five modes are about output-neutral (the Euphoria has one of three that sports a real volume boost). The Ages joins the Monument, EB-10, Eons, and Lillian on my pedal boards. Thank you Walrus!
Hey Brandon, We are glad you picked up an Ages! It sounds like you are enjoying it. Thanks for the review. - Walrus Audio
